Current EventsWhat: A Workshop for Women Interested in Public Office Where: Broome community College, Decker Health Sciences Building, Room 201 When: Saturday, February 11 (snow date Feb 18), 9AM - 5 PM Description: The Civic Education Council of Broome Community College will present a workshop for women thinking about running for public office or becoming more involved in community affairs in other ways. The one-day, Saturday workshop will focus on the positive difference women can bring to public service. Learn about the various roles women have had in local, state, and national government. Participants will learn about which public service roles are available and which ones might be a good match for their interests, skills, and talents. Clear and practical advice will be offered by a panel of current and past officeholders, candidates, and campaign managers. In addition, a basic overview of practical steps one needs to take once one decides that public service is an area of interest will be presented. The all-day event includes morning beverages and lunch. Cost: $10 per person and registration is required by Wednesday, February 8, by contacting the Continuing Education Office at BCC at (607) 778-5012. Scholarships are also available.What: Democratic Women of Broome County general interest meeting and 2012 kick off party Where: Broome County Democratic Headquarters, 508 Court Street, lower level, Binghamton When: Thursday, January 19th at 6:30pm with party to follow Description: The event on January 19th is free. DWBC membership dues are $10 annually and begin in February. What: Annual Chili Fest Where: American Legion Post 89, Jensen Road, Vestal When: Thursday, April 19th 5:30PM until 7:30PM Description: Cost is $7/person and includes admission to the event, chili, corn bread, and soft drinks. Cash bar for beer, wine, liquor. Local elected officials and dignitaries prepare chili and their product is judged by a pannel of judges. There is also plenty of chili for guests to enjoy including contestants' chili and chili from local restaurants. |
